Luminous Wallpapers – For Jackson, 1999
3-channel video installation (occupies approximately 12.2 running meters)
7 minute cycle, audio
Three copper-toned photo murals (each 2.4 meters by 6 meters), three photo etched inked copper plates (each .6 meters X .9 meters), and each copper plate embedded with two 5 cm monitors; three wooden shelves to hold the copper plates; three sets of audio speakers; three VHS players, and a switcher to run the installation. The installation combines documentary-based portraits in photography, video and photo etching of two women – Rosemary Brown and Ruth Sujir. The portraits are constructed with fragments of memory and documents, moving across generations, to explore culture, history, and memory.
