My Two Grandmothers, 1991

4-channelVideo Installation (occupies approximately 4.8 meters by 6 meters)

31-minute cycle, no audio

Video “quilt”: organza, silk and cotton fabric 1.8 meters by 2.4 meters with video projection material, fabric and photo construction. Twenty-one monitors (35 cm each) mounted like tiles in a horizontal arc 2 meters higher than the video quilt; four VHS players, one switcher to run the installation. Garden of sandstone rocks, with four monitors (35 cm each) wrapped in saris, surrounded by flowering plants. (3/4-inch videotape re-mastered onto Digital Betacam)

Collection: the Glenbow Art Gallery

The installation brings together a re-imagining of personal and public history within a site constructed from actual fabric, video, still photographs, sandstone rocks and plants.
